Mudbug Teaching

Bio: I am a 32 year veteran of Louisiana’s public school system. I currently teach English at Ovey Comeaux High School, a medium size urban high school. I am privileged to teach at OCHS which is my high school Alma Mater. I am a Mentor Teacher and Mentor Teacher Coach through ULL as well as a certified Louisiana Secondary Content Leader of English. I have a side hustle training early childcare workers and I’m licensed by the state to credential ECE for their continuing credit hours as well as educating Louisiana Daycare Directors and administrators. Currently, after teaching all day, I assist with running an after school program and concurrent summer camp as well as maintaining a small Teachers Pay Teachers Sfore. My educational experience has primarily. been secondary English but I have taught special education as a self- contained teacher of mild moderate students and Behavior Diaorder students. I also taught in a jail facility as a special educator of students who were behavior disordered and emotionally disturbed as well as being adjudicated. My training for that type of special education centers from the Boystown Model for Classroom Management and Aggressive Youth Training. I had the honor of visiting Boystown Nebraska and spent a week training in Boystown becoming a turn key trainer which was one of the most useful professional workshops I attended in my early years of teaching. Other areas I have taught in are Special Education Inclusion: geography, and algebra 1. Piano, ACT Prep, Newspaper and Journalism. I was the recipient of the Dow Jones Newspaper Grant for many years and received a Fellowship for my students and myself to attend the Columbia Press Association Conference In North Carolina. As a dedicated teacher in the classroom, I was given the honor of leading several School Improvement Teams and was the only teacher in my current parish to attend and participate in the Virginia School Turn Around Cohort for Lafayette Parish. My experiences with the Turn Around Project have enriched my knowledge of school improvement and team leadership immensely. My most recent areas of instructional training have been in the world of Dual Enrollment and College Board’s Advanced Placement English courses. I believe it’s a great advancement for high school students to earn collegiate credits while in their later years of high school. This allows them a head start and cuts down on future student loan debts!
